Which side of the road?

As most of you know, in other countries around the world it is law to drive on the left side of the road. Rather then on the right side here in the States. My question to you is which side do you think is more logical to drive on and for what reasons? Or does it matter? There is also the difference that they're steering wheel is also on the other side of the car. Does it make anything easier or more difficult? Should there be a reason to switch to another countries methods? I'd like to say keep it how it is just because i'm used to it haha.

  1. I see the driving conversation as a part of culture. I don't believe it should make a huge deal with what side you drive on unless it's different than your own culture and what you're used to. My friend who lives in California owns a Jeep Wrangler with the steering wheel on the right side. He has it because he doesn't find a difference in the way he drives. Also, I think laws are extremely confusing. As a child, and my mother getting het motorcycle license, I always questioned why you cannot drive with someone on the back when you get your permit. It's the opposite of when you get your car permit. It's unusual why there are certain regulations and laws, but they will always have evidence and great facts to back up their decisions.

  2. Most people assume it's just a matter of convention, but there are persistent and troubling differences in accident rates -- left-side drivers, particularly in the UK, seem to be safer overall (notwithstanding that they drive like maniacs). Though changing over would be impractical, it's possible that there are physiological differences (e.g. most people are right-handed, etc.) that would make left-side driving safer by a goodly statistical margin.
